Computed Tomography (PET-CT) scanner

The Computed Tomography (PET-CT) scanner is used primarily to detect cancer, plan treatment and examine the effects of cancer therapy. It is also used to assess the extent of heart diseases and neurological conditions.

This scanner is considered as one of the most powerful tools to enhance quality health care. It is the second in a South African public hospital after the one at Inkosi Albert Luthuli in KwaZulu-Natal. It is the first of three in Gauteng public hospitals, the other two will be located at Johannesburg and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospitals.

This particular machine will also benefit patients from other provinces including Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
